NOTE – If a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will also be a public holiday.
Singapore Public Holidays – What are they?
You may have noticed, Singapore celebrates holidays from several religions.
Being a country promoting multiracialism since independence, research has found that Singapore has the highest religious diversity in the world.
Singapore has 10 National Holidays every year:
- International New Year: first day of the year in the Gregorian calendar
- Chinese New Year: first day of the lunar calendar
- Good Friday: Christian holiday, commemorates the death of Jesus Christ
- Labor Day: also know as May Day. International worker’s day
- Vesak Day: commemorates the birth of Buddha, celebrated every 4th month of the Buddhist calendar
- Hari Raya Puasa: also known as Day of Celebration. A Muslim holiday to celebrate the end of ramadan
- Hari Raya Haji: also known as the Festival of Sacrifice. Celebrated 70 days after ramadan
- National Day: celebrates Singapore’s independence from Malaysia in 1965
- Deepavali: also known as Diwali, the Festival of Lights. An Indian celebration that symbolises the spiritual victory of lights over darkness
- Christmas: Christian holiday, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ
Contrary to the Chinese Public Holidays, the rules in Singapore are very simple. A day off is a day off, and if it falls on a Sunday, then the following Monday is also observed. That’s it.
? As an example: National Singapore Holiday 2022
25th – 26th – 27th of February (Sat-Mon) are national holidays.
Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th are the official holidays.
But since the holiday falls on a Sunday, then Monday 27th is also observed and becomes a holiday.
What to do during your National Holidays
Singapore Public Holidays at LTL Mandarin School
LTL Mandarin School is open all year long, even during the celebrations such as Christmas and the Chinese New Year.
We can assure you, you will never miss any classes you booked because of a holiday.
Still, your teacher might travel home during a holiday, and as a consequence your lessons will need to be moved to other days before or after the holiday. This can happen specifically during longer holidays such as the Chinese New Year or National Day. So, just be aware that your schedule might need some changes.

Holidays in Mainland China are a bit different and there are also fewer.
Holidays in Mainland China, 2022 dates are as following:

- April 5th 2022 – Qing Ming Jie (Tomb Sweeping Day)
- May 1st 2022 – Labor Day
- June 3rd 2022 – Dragon Boat Festival
- September 10th 2022 – Mid Autumn Festival
- October 1st – 7th 2022 – National Holiday
Holidays in Mainland China follow a specific rule.
Saturdays or Sundays become a work day, so the work day is off to allow longer holidays so that people can go home for a longer period of time.
