It is very difficult to work at LTL, because we only select the best. Our teachers know how to get your Chinese to the next level in to time, you’ll be amazed seeing how fast your skills will progress.

In Singapore, we keep our classes small, so every one has a chance to speak, ask questions and bond with the teachers. You won’t have to fight for attention like at university, how great is that!

Our school is located in the centre of Singapore, a very convenient location that allow to go explore the city with your classmates and go for drinks after class. If you are looking for faster progress, you can choose to live in a Chinese Homestay, which 80% of our students choose. Living with a family allows you to speak Chinese all day, and use what you learned in class in real life.

LTL Mandarin Courses in Singapore || Group Classes

Mandarin courses from Monday to Friday
Standard (20 hours a week) or intensive (30 hours a week) course
Lessons are 55 minutes long
Groups of three students on average (maximum of six)
70% Oral Chinese
30% Reading and Written

Standard – 4 hours per day, 5 days a week, which makes a total of 20h Chinese learning a week.
Intensive – 6 hours per day (4h of group class and 2h of 1-on-1), 5 days a week, which makes a total of 30 hours each week.

PLEASE NOTE | If a class has fewer than 4 students, students can (subject to availability) switch to another class or continue their classes online. In this situation students tend to choose online lessons because the class size is smaller.

Our classes covers all aspects of the language: listening, writing, speaking and reading. For even faster progress, you can also add Individual Classes to your Group Classes to speed up your progress and strengthen what you learned with your classmates.

Course Preparation Talk [FREE]

This is not a test, just a way for us to know your current Chinese level in order to find you the right group class.

If you are a complete beginner there is no problem, but if you already know some Chinese, we will assess you before you start your Mandarin courses in Singapore.

You don’t have to worry, really! The Preparation Talk is in fact a simple conversation with our Director of Studies, who will ask simple questions to get to know your level. This small chat we allow us to put you in the right class with the right teacher, so you can make the most of your stay.

This step is VERY IMPORTANT to your progress in Mandarin. We don’t want you to feel too far behind, or too advanced, so we will find you the perfect class.

NOTE – If you don’t know any Chinese and are a complete beginner, you can start at any date stated above. If you already know some Mandarin, you can start any Monday of the year.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Should I choose group or individual lessons?

It’s up to you, really.

But if you already know some Mandarin, a group class might not be the best option. Indeed, levels between students tend to vary a lot from the intermediate to the most advanced level. In that case, 1-on-1 lessons are more appropriate.

For complete beginners, a group class or an Intensive course would be a good option. That way you can start learning Chinese with other students of a beginner level, and progress together towards higher levels.

One of the benefit of the individual classes, is that you can choose what to learn and focus on a certain aspect of the language. In short, you can tailor every lesson to your needs and likings.

Will I study with someone from my country?

Your fellow students can come from absolutely every country in the world. Maybe they will come from the same country, maybe not.

To this day, LTL have had more than 5,000 students from more than 100 countries. It is your chance to make international friends and learn about other cultures.

Are group classes the same no matter the city?

Yes, they are.

No matter the city you choose to take group classes in, be it Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai or Chengdu, the format will be the same and teachers will provide the same sort of lesson structure.

What does a typical lesson at LTL look like?

During your lessons you’ll cover all aspects of the language: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

The teachers will also encourage you to use as much Chinese as possible during the lesson. The time is divided by 70% speaking and 30% writing, since speaking Chinese will be more useful in your day to day life in China.

Usually the week is divided like this:

Mon-Wed-Fri – Speaking & Listening

Tues-Thur – Writing & Reading

What can I do to learn faster?

There is so many things you can do speed up your progress!

– Live in a Homestay

– Go out, make Chinese friends

– Take part in every activity where you can meet Chinese people (Language Mix..)

– Talk to your taxi driver, ask for directions, there are so many excuses to speak Chinese

– Study hard and never give up. Consistency is key

– Read as much as possible

– Use daily the best Chinese learning apps

– Listen to Chinese songs, watch Chinese TV shows

– Listen to Chinese podcasts

– Ask questions. There is no such thing as a stupid question

– Try NOT to speak your language when Chinese is too hard. Keep trying
